My husband has a similar problem. The sleep clinic doctor that he saw recommended the following to get yourself back on a "normal" ("normal" being able to sleep at night):

If you usually can't go to sleep until 6am and want to go to sleep at, say, 9pm:
Day 1: go to bed at 6am
Day 2: go to bed 3 hrs later ... at 9am
Day 3: go to bed at 12 noon
Day 4: go to bed at 3pm
Day 5: go to bed at 6pm
Day 6: go to bed at 9pm

My husband asked him, "Why can't I just do that in reverse?" The doctor said that that option has never worked for his patients and even said, "You've probably tried doing it in reverse and it hasn't worked, has it?" And he was right.

Of course, the downside of this is that if you have a job to go to, you'd have to take a week off of work in order to readjust your sleep cycle.
