Sinemet gave me great relief from RLS/PLMS but augmentation and slow loss of effectiveness did take place. As doses were ramped up side effects showed up, so be familiar with the list of side effects and watch for them. Augmentation and such... well... sinemet caused my PLMS (night while sleeping) to show up AT bedtime as RLS, and it seems that after getting off sinemet my PLMS/RLS was worse. But I tell you... the relief I got from sinemet was sure, complete, and so terribly welcome when I first started it. The side effects and augmentation are why I was taken off it, which was a great relief. It lasted maybe 4 months.

Was moved to neurontin. This does nothing to relieve the PLMS but somehow does allow rest to take place. It is also mood stabilizing and causes sleepiness. I'm on it still, 500 mg, sometimes a night or two of more, up to 1100 mg. Expensive stuff. Also known as Gabapentin. I like it. It is mild and reasonably effective, causes no augmentation.

I've tried a LOT of vitamin and natural products. Vitamin E, Magnesium, Iron, B-12, a B complex for stress, Valerian, St. John's Wort, a mixture of Valerian - St. John's Wort - Kava Kava - some others I don't remember - all marketed in capsules as "Sleepytime Extra", Tonic water that contains Quinine, and One a Day Vitamins with Iron. Of these the One a Day Vitamins make a definite difference. Magnesium seems to help to a small extent. St John's Wort helps too. Tonic Water with Quinine gives near immediate relief but you have to drink so much of the stuff - a liter. Watch out about taking iron supplements - get a doc to work with you if you want to take it - dangerous. I liked the effect of the Sleepytime Extra but don't use it, cost vs little benefit. Caffeine makes a BIG difference, quit using it period.

Lord, please let us out of this ailment. It is so torturous.
