It sounds like RLS to me but I suggest that you see someone who specializes in RLS and PLMD.

At my most severe, when I was the most sleep deprived, I was not even aware of awakening at all during the night but I'd be so tired all the time. Once I started taking the medication for RLS, I realized how little sleep I must have actually been getting. With the medication, I am aware of waking up at night, sometimes, but even then, I'm much more alert and refreshed in the morning so I think it has something to do with the stage of sleep you are in when you have the arousals and how many times you are aroused during the night. Considering the before and after of my own situation, I don't think I was getting any sleep sometimes.

My 4 or 5 sleep studies have all shown RLS in some degree or another but it was always a secondary issue and once I treated ALL the other issues, and didn't feel very much better, they decided to look at the RLS and BAM, that was it.

Good luck.
