sore ankles - rls possible cause?

I often find that my ankles lock up and i need to crack them (which is incredibly painful). I think this is the reason that they lock up - years of rls. as long as i can remember i have rotated my ankles so my feet rub against the sheets when i'm trying to fall asleep. even sitting here now i just caught myself doing it. so frustrating. my ankles arent painful when im rotating them, it is only painful when my ankles lock up during the day when i'm playing sport etc. does this sound familiar or is it totally unrelated?
