Posted by BubbaJo on February 19, 2008 at 22:01:44:I went for a second PSG after an inconclusive test 6 months ago. First test showed 200 arousals with 7 respiratory events and a total of 4 PLMS with a sleep efficiency of 89%- severely fragmented sleep, but no diagnosis. I received the results of my second study today- COMPLETELY different than the first one- "only" 104 arousals, 10 respiratory events and...here's the kicker (no pun intended)- 214 PLMS and a total sleep efficiency of 60%. Now, all of these PLMS are all for the right leg and a few for the right arm. Out of 214, isn't it highly unlikely that NONE of these would have occured with my left leg? I'm either lead to believe that #1- the sensor on my right leg wasn't working properly resulting in "phantom" PLMS or #2- the sensor on my left leg wasn't working properly and my total PLMS probably would have been higher than 214.
Any thoughts??? I'm desperate here. I was leaning towards UARS from all of the research that I've done and through self-monitoring at home...but the doctor doesn't see any "signs" of that and I've been left with the options of taking Xyrem for the severe sleep fragmentation (by the way, narcolepsy has been ruled out through a MSLT) or Requip for PLMS. I'm leaning towards the Xyrem as it sounds like it will, at the least, keep me asleep for awhile.
I'm a physically fit 32 year old male and it's been years since I've awaken from sleep feeling rested and refreshed. I'm "tired" of stumbling through my life. It's taken a toll on my drive, my determination, and my creativity. I'm just worried that we're missing something here.
