Thanks, Sandman! Your explanation for the PLMs makes alot of sense and more of an explanation than the doctor was able to give me.

I'm stuck on UARS because of videos that I've done over the past several months and information that you and several others gave me on these boards after my first sleep study in August. Unfortunately, the sleep lab that I'm working with here in AZ doesn't use the tube down the throat, nor do any of the other local labs that I'm aware of. On most nights, all of my home videos showed snoring...very light (I'm very thin) and increasing in intensity until I appear to wake myself up. I also recorded a few nights while on Ambien, and the snoring was actually very loud in a few instances. The sleep techs from both sleep studies made no note of snoring, though I had extremely fragmented sleep with no explanation. Even with this second sleep study and the 200 plms, about half of the fragmentation didn't involve PLM's at all.

I decided to call my doctor back and discuss all of this with her. While she feels UARS would have shown up in my study (I've had the hardest time convincing anyone that this isn't necessarily the case, especially without the esophageal tube), she says she has nothing to go by that would completely cause her to rule it out. Due to my strong feelings on this, and the info I've shared with her from my home studies, she has decided to order CPAP for me and will do whatever she needs to do to get the insurance company to pay for it. I don't know if CPAP is the best solution or even proven to work for UARS, but it seems to be the only solution offered so far that might actually address the snoring/respiratory problems I have noted. Are there any other known and effective treatments for UARS? Anything that would lead you to believe that this isn't UARS? Even though my doctor is willing to support me, I hate the fact that I am having to diagnose myself.

Thanks so much!!!
