After spending a night in a sleep lab, the doctor told me I have RLS. I don't doubt that his equipment indicates I have it, but a couple of things don't seem to fit with my symptoms.
I had always associated RLS with a electric or itchy sensation in the legs, but my problem has always been an achy sensation in the hamstrings that can be temporarily relieved by stretching. I know RLS covers a broad spectrum of symptoms and I only get it in the evening, so it does seem to be RLS, but was curious to see if other people have the same symptoms I do.
Also, the doctor said that based on my heart rate I am waking up several times a minute during the first half of the night, which he assumed was due to limb movement. I was completely oblivious to this, nor has my sleeping partner ever complained about being kicked or even noticed me jerking. Can you have periodic limb movement without your limbs physically moving?
I went to the sleep lab as I suffer from early morning awakening, but the first night of Clonazepam last night didn't really help with that. Does Clonazepam get better results over time? And are there people on this forum who have been taking it safely long term? I have been taking Mirtzapine for sleep, and I have read that it can cause symptoms of restless legs, so am wondering if this resulted in this reading during the sleep test.
Thanks in advance for your advice,
Mark
