grumpy mornings? melatonin, the dracula hormone, and your own natural shift

Posted by buffalo bill on June 13, 2000 at 22:03:32:

grumpy every morning? it was always a struggle for me (52) all my life to get to school or work that 6am shift.

the usaf once had me on 3-3-3-off 3 wacky rotating shifts one year at a training base, even when i begged for midnights.

not happy on your shift? try working the evening shift 4-midnight. or change to the 11pm-7am shift and see if it suits you better.

stuck in an uncomfortable shift (or too much studying needed for college) , i found you need to eat more if you sleep less. best answer, dont sleep less. in fact if you don't slot a perfect 10 consecutive hours in the bedroom you will be doing yourself a great disservice.

now i'm self-employed, sleep 6am-4pm, finish work or activities by 2am, head for the living room tv,coming off work i need 4 hours to unwind for bed.
i include my favorite taped tv shows and a big meal and beer
and hit the sack at 6am.

my daughter(23)is an early morning riser like her mom.
but my son (17) must have inherited my cycle, he's always impossible to wake up for school. we discovered melatonin a few years ago and it is a great help for him at bedtime to get to sleep. it's available in 1 or 3mg tablets by equate at walmart cheapest. follow the directions and vary the dose until you get the timing and the dose right for you.

we found some LOUD alarm clocks at different truck stop stores and he uses 2 loud ones and 2 clock radios to wake up.
need more info, search www.google.com for melatonin
