Graveyard

Posted by OblivionTrain on July 09, 2000 at 13:00:09:

I work graveyards(11PM-7AM) at a local convenience store. I've been doing this for about three months now and I still can't get my schedule straight. I especially have trouble when I get a night or two off. They don't always give me the same night off, and they aren't always in a row. But when I do get a night off, my sleeping schedule gets all out of whack and I usually wind up staying up for 38 hours or so, or... I wind up falling asleep(at home) and sleeping through my entire shift. This happens even sometimes when I haven't had a night off. I can't fall asleep, wind up staying up... and either go to work and stay up even more, or fall asleep and miss work.

I've missed a few days(collectively)already from doing this, and I explained it to my manager. Why they tolerate it is beyond me, any other job would've fired me by now, but since it is graveyard, they can't easily find someone else to fill my shift.

The weird thing is, though... even before I started working this shift, I was most definitely a night owl. I always slept during the day, and was up at night. Never when I had a job, of course... but it worked okay for me then. Still, I like this shift... it's just difficult to deal with. Any suggestions... or... anything?
