Posted by Michele Murphy on July 09, 2000 at 20:09:22:I work as an EMT for a behavioral health company. I've been doing some goofy shifts (ie: 18 hours on, 6 off, 12 on, 12 off, 12 on 6 off, etc.), and now my sleep is totally useless. On a good night, I get 4 hours; a bad night is 2 hours. I have missed work because I am just too tired to drive safely. My boss has now tagged me as "unreliable," due to my absences, yet he has signs posted all around quarters saying, "If you don't have time for safety, we don't have time for you." Is it just my sleep-deprived opinion, or is he being a whole lot hypocritical?
Also, how can I get more, and better quality, sleep when I do have time off?
