Ouch! Do I remember. I never did get it fully solved. It's not any easier for a single father. When I could take the kids to the park I was often looked upon as potential child molester.
Churches, other parents, free public park programs, an occasional relative might provided some help. they did for me. Senior citizens are often looking for a bit of extra money for light work.
You don't say who is watching the kids at night.
If it's the kid's father he must realize the same rules do not apply during the summer when the kids are home all day.Kids get lonely even though you are in the next room sleeping. They need frequent massages of attention and love or they begin to feel abandoned. Notice I put attention first. You don't give enough details for me to offer more suggestions. Personally I think our churches, schools and other public institutions have and are continuing to ill serve the shiftworker.
I hope some one else has more to offer than I do. All I can say is that we managed to make it through it in one piece. But 'tweren't easy.
Good Luck
