to clarify my message:

Week 1 - Work days on Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday (off on Sunday, Wednesday, thursday)
Week 2 - Work Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday; off on Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday.
Week 3 - Work nights Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday (really Monday night for Tuesday, Tuesday night for Wednesday, Friday night for Saturday); off on Monday, Thursday, Friday)
Week 4 - Work nights Sunday (Saturday night), Monday (Sunday night), Thursday (Wednesday night), Friday (Thursday night); off Saturday.
Week 5 - Monday & Tuesday take 12 hours vacation each day -- or work "extra" if you don't have enough vacation -- or take compensatory time. off Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday; plot in a holiday each rotation in place of a regular day off (8 hours) We get 11 holidays a year which equals 88 holiday hours.
This works out to a gross work hour schedule of 1,992 work hours; 88 holiday hours or a total of 2080 hours per year. It costs your employer no extra to cover vacation since they are "built in" every fifth week.
Working 40 hours per week x 52 weeks = 2080 work hours per year.

There are 8760 hours per year; divided by 4 workers requires each to work 2190 hours to cover. plus they would need to cover vacation, personal time for others in the group. if divided by 5 workers, requires each to work 1,752 to cover the schedule with no need to cover others' vacation, but does require coverage for others' personal time.

If you subtract from the 2,080 gross work hours vacation, personal time, holiday, you will find you are actually working about 1800 hours -- so you may have to work several of those tours on the week off to make up the time you need to work to fulfill your schedule requirements for the year. This depends on what your vacation and/or personal time allowances are.

Hope this makes sense to you.
