Carolyn, the schedule you propose forces the worker to take vacation at specified intervals, which may not always meet their individual needs, if I am reading it correctly. I may not be, and if so I apologize. The schedule we work is identical to the schedule you propose with the removal of the fifth week. We have a relief person to fill in when individuals take vacation or are sick in the regular rotation. It is not a schedule conducive to great mental health or awareness, but it is better than many I have seen in this forum. I very much like the concept you offer in having every fifth week off, sort of a mental and physical break. I suppose the best schedule of all would be working the days in the order you describe with no rotation involved. The trick, of course, is to find enough "nightowls" to fill the night shifts. I'd be glad to hear any comments or corrections of my interpretation
