I work in the Energy industry - 24/7. I have worked a couple different shift patterns, and find that the Dupont is about as good as it gets in combining time worked with time off.
The Dupont Schedule is as follows -- it works for a section shift crew, or a "relief week" can be added. That relief week serves as an opportunity for vacation coverage and training, if you have a small crew. You can start it pretty much any day of the week as well.
M T W T F S S
Week 1 - N N N N O O O
Week 2 - D D D O N N N
Week 3 - O O O D D D D
Week 4 - O O O O O O OYou can end it there - or add the "Relief Week" -
Week 5 - D D D D O O O
Those "Relief" days would be 8 hour days -- meaning that only 32 hours would be worked that week. However - over a 52 week period, this averages about 40 hours a week. I have done this schedule where the 6 day week has no day off in the middle, and it is tough.Good luck!
