Hi,
In Australia there is definitely different pay rates for Day shift, Swing Shift and Mid Shift.
I worked this schedule for about 6 years before the employees put the proposal to management to switch to a 12 hour shift schedule and the proposal was accepted. We now work a 4 on 4 off 12 hour rotating shift, 2 days then 2 nights from 0730 to 1930. Since implementing this shift employee moral has increased, sick days have decreased, and productivity has increased. Now neither employees or management ever want to go back to an 8 hour rotating shift.
The Space Tracking Industry Award states that shift work hourly rates of pay are increased as follows:
day shift(0730-1530) - normal rate of pay
Swing shift(1530-2330) - 15% pay rate increase
Mid shift(2330-0730) - 20% pay rate increase
pay increases are not payed on Saturday, Sunday and public holidays. On thses days pay rates are time and a half for Saturdays and double time for Sundays and double time and a half for public holidays.Cheers
