Posted by rch on September 18, 2006 at 19:02:10:I recently got a job involving shift work like, for example, so:
day 1: 06:00-14:00
day 2: 06:00-14:00
day 3: 14:00-22:00
day 4: 14:00-22:00
day 5: "off", starting next days night shift at 22:00
day 6: 22:00-06:00
day 7: 22:00-06:00
day 8: off
day 9: off
day 10 :offNow, I can sleep quite well furing the morning-morning-evening-evening, and usually at least 5 or so hours for the nights by simply staying up 8-ish hours longer than the two days before at shift change. This is wreaking havoc with my hormones andall that jazz, giving me horrible acne, but at least I stay alive and get to work. Now, My problem is in switching from nights to mornings during the three off days. Should be the same procedure as morning-evening, right? But by that time I'm so screwed up from the days before that nothing seems to work. I can't stay up the usual 8 hours longer than usual because I'm just so tired.
Also, it's a 1,5h drive to work so I get very little free time during work days. Would like to use the off days to relax and enjoy myself but right now I'm just too screwed up at that point to do much more than sit at home drinking coffee.
Any tips on how to adjust to this?
