I work third shift and the biggest problem i ran into with my ex, was the fact that i was there to sleep with at night. I would get irratable only when I would wake up to hear the baby crying and find her sleeping next to me. I would get off work and watch the baby so she could sleep in but then when i finnally went to sleep i would almost always wake up to find her in bed as well. This tended to make me angry. I think the biggest effect that 3rd shift has on famlys is the lack of time together. even when both couples work days they can be close to eachother at night. but on a split schedule You hardley ever get anytime together and it can put a real strain on any relationship
