Hi we currently work a 24/7 operation and have a crew in 2 locations. the roster is 12 on 36 off. Works like this.

MTWTFSSMTWTFSSMTWTFSSMTWTFSS
DODODNONONONODODODODNONONOOO the next 4 week block is

MTWTFSSMTWTFSSMTWTFSSMTWTFSS
OOOODNONONONODODODODNONONOOO then back to the start.

So you get a 3 day weekend on one 4 week and a 7 day week end on the next.

also once every 5 months you get a extra weekend by the cover shift working the Fri dayshift and the sat night shift.

this roster has been in for about 15-17 years and alot of new folk want to change to the 4 on 4 off.

I see the advantages of the 12/36 roster as you always get some of the weekend, after every night shift your in your own bed the next night. You always have a day/night off after your shift.
