Wanted: Advice and/or New Sleep Position

Posted by Lisa on May 31, 2001 at 21:55:59:

Hello, All! I am hoping that someone out there can help me with a situation I've come across here at my new "dream job;" See, after working in a 3-bed, accredited hospital sleep lab for a couple of years, I was pursued (I never applied)and recruited to another part of the state to put together and run a 2-bed, free-standing sleep disorders center. Well, within three weeks (and a limited budget,) I had a smooth-running, state-of-the-art lab. The problem is, we are not getting even half of the patients that the owners had anticipated. Also, the reimbersement rate of each sleep study is barely half of what the owners expected. Even though I have no control over getting patients or the state reimbersement rate, I am getting the brunt of everyone's frustration. When I defend myself, I am told that I am at the "bottom of the totem pole," and that I need to just "smile and take it." They also reassure me that I am conducting excellent tests and that I am wonderful with the patients. Here's the other problem: they have decided recently to order all sleep studies as two-night studies, instead of the split studies, in order to make extra money. These people (the owners/investors) have never witnessed a sleep study, do not know what one consists of, and have shrugged off any information that I feel would be helpful. I am definately stuck between a rock and a hard place and hope that someone can give me some advice. I am also interested in any informatin on full-time positions open, preferably in the midwest. I am planning on taking (and passing!) the registration exam in two weeks. I'd be happy to send my resume, cover letter, and letters of recommendation upon request. Thanks for any input!
