Apnea, by definition is a cessation of all airflow, however; I still score up to 20% flow signal if snoring stops as apnea due to the limitations of the thermocouple.
As for hypopnea, definitions abound which is why Medicare doesn't recognize them. Check out the postion paper in the June edition of the Journal Sleep for an attempt at a definitive definition.
