There are none except what your local hospital and staff want unless you are accredited, in which case he must be board certified. Some insurance companies won't pay for interpretation unless it is by a board certified sleep specialist. This list is growing. Some labs have a physician who is not certified as medical director but send off the study to be interpreted by a certified specialist. You also want more than just interpretation since someone needs to see the patient who is knowledgable. Usually when the local docs find out that they are liable for errors in managment they no longer want the "fast track" lab test but want a certified specialist doing the whole thing. I see some terrible things happening when people think they know enough but don't know what they are missing. Sleep Medicine is really complex and often hard--not just a lab test. Beware when someone tells you otherwise. Good luck, JPH
