Our lab offers techs a choice: They can do 4 10-hour nights of JUST patient care, OR they can do three longer nights with some scoring expected of them.

For the 4-10's, techs come in at 9pm, and both patients are scheduled for 9:30pm. (The CPAP patient watches a video and orients to the mask while the tech hooks up the diagnostic patient.) Goal is to get both patients running by midnight or earlier. Techs wake patients up at about 6am and try to leave by 7am.

Score-techs come in earlier and score a test before starting their patient care duties, and also try to score one test "on-the-fly" during acquisition.

This works out well for us. Our 4-10's techs do usually get a little overtime, but they don't mind... ;)
