IF the other tech as senority, in a way she can use that. But not really the way you described though. In our lab, senority comes into play only when making origional changes (ie:someone leaves and we are redoing the "standard schedule" of nights that eveyone works). At that point, based on senority, either someone keeps the schedule they have, or they can elect to make a change. After that point, eveyone has their schedule and changes can not be made without the manager's ok and the other tech (that the change will effect) OK. If I want to say switch with Kristy 2 days this week. We both need to put it in writting and agree to it. If I need to switch and Kristy says NO I could then try and go to the manager. Though honestly, we have such a good team attitude here I've never had someone say no. The manager has the right to change our shift assigments based off of need to cover for vacations and such. However, even so, she always sits us down and tells us she's going to do this for x and y week in advance. After that, eveyone goes back to their standard assignments. If two people agree that they want to make a perminant switch, they need to both give it to her in writting and she then either ok's it (usually the case) or denies it (never seen that happen yet). There is no difference between RPSGT, R.EEG or not -usually. She has denied a switch a couple of times because she wanted the seizure patient that was comming in to be with the EEG Tech. The patient was already scheduled and she wouldn't move them back. However, she did make an effort to move them forward to other days with the EEG gal so that in the end... the switch was done. As you can see, denials are usually skill based and very logical. If you signed on saying you could only work Tuesdays nights, that's all you would work here. You would never be switched off of it unless you requested it or there was some kind of change in staffing (someone leaving) that forced it. As you would have more senority than the incoming tech the new person would be told that they were being hired for x,y, and b days and that would work around you being back on Tuesdays.
If it were me, I would take your complaint to the manager. If they don't listen, go to their boss. If that doesn't work... time to look for a job where you are treated better.
