Here's a news flash...sitting around to see what the worst is doesn't butch you up and make you a man. If that's what he wants, let him put it in writing and sign his name to it. Then you have something you can argue with. If you're not comfortable with what he says, you can take it to a cardiologist or critical care doc and get another opinion.
We're not here to see how bad it can get. There has to be limits as to when enough is enough and they need to be spelled out before hand, especially with someone questioning your judgement. YOU are responsible for that patient while they're in the lab and you have to make decisions based on what you think is best for them. You should be able to do that without being second guessed.
You started out by saying "butch up on the hard caseS" (pleural), so I'm assuming this situation isn't the first. I think hammering out the details of policy and procedures would be worth your while, and your patients.
