Mechanical baseline adjustment refers to the starting position of each pen, typically set at the center of each channel, since output produces both upward and downward deflections. These deflections should be equal in rise and depth.
Electrical baseline adjustment refers to alterations made after pen activation and is generally used to align polygraph pens with specific gridlines on paper. This is very helpful when precise amplitude measurement is necessary during instrument calibration (ie: oximetry).
