drowsy driving and rest stops

Posted by exhausted on November 08, 2002 at 06:15:17:

We all know how dangerous drowsy driving can be and I'm sure I'm not the only night tech that has an hour or so commute home in the morning. Twice now I've been on the road and felt like I couldn't keep my eyes open any longer. Once I stopped at a rest stop and after a bad experience with that (2 people came up to my car and started knocking on the windows and waving at me... really wierd and even though I had my car doors locked and the windows rolled up, it made me nervous). The second time I stopped in a mall parking lot and parked at the very end of a low traffic area and sure enough, someone also came up to my car and knocked on the window asking me if I was ok. How are we supposed to avoid driving when we're so tired if people won't leave us alone so we can take a nap! Has anyone else had any experiences like this or any advice for me? p.s. I can't sleep in the sleep lab after a long shift and often I feel ok until I start driving anyway.
