I recently (3 weeks ago)moved 75 miles away from the sleep lab. Although I haven't had this problem yet, I am sure it is soon to come. The one suggestion that I have is to wear one of those eye masks that keep the light out. It will be obvious that you are choosing to rest, and that you are not ill or something. If that doesn't work, tape a note to it saying "I'm Sleeping!"
So far, I have been lucky enough to have my second (or third) wind by the time I head home. I also only allow myself one or two cups of coffee per workday, at about 4am. I leave work around 7:30 and can keep awake until I get home around 9. Then, an hour or so after that, I will be "crashing" from the caffeine and can sleep from about 10-5.
