I went back to the Carskadon article I cited, "Guidelines for the Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT): A Standard Measure of Sleepiness" and it clear states, in verbiage and then again in a table, that the nap should continue 15 minutes past onset OR 20 minutes after Lights Out if there is no sleep... It says nothing about ending the test after one epoch of REM sleep.

I would trust Carskadon (who actually invented the test!) more than I would trust "Sleep Medicine Pearls." My Medical Director told me some RESEARCH protocols say to end the test after one epoch of REM, but this is not the CLINICAL standard.
