I've seen studies that show home studies end up costing just as much--I don't know. We are seeing pts. who have been given CPAP after diagnosis without CPAP titration! Usually the doc owns a big interest in a DME company and is only interested in the DME fee. Hope CMS and other insurance companies stop that. We usually see these patients after their PCP sends them in to us because the patient quit the machine because "it didn't work" and they are very sick. I think it is fraud and hope home studies don't give an opportunity to deliver DME without in house good titration---not auto pap at home.
