Currently, the AASM only has recommendations for an RPSGT to be on staff. They are only doing their site visit to inspect the center they are at physically. I would say that if there were no problems with the written submission that the odds are good a center would pass their site visit. The AASM Accreditation makes certain the center appears to be run correctly, that patients are getting the referrals necessary for their illness, the techs are getting educational opportunities, the docs are ordering appropriate studies, and that the studies are being performed and scored correctly.
The AASM are not the sleep police, neither is the APT, as far as making certain that unqualified people are not doing studies and making money for shoddy work. So, just who SHOULD be the body in charge of policing our ranks? It should be a third organization that is uninvolved in the possible politics of the situation, eh? ;)
