I agree with both of you,Old Sleeper & sleepygirl. Many times it doesn't matter when the rubber meets the road as to where someone was trained. But there has to be a universal way to measure competency. I agree, let's support the BRPT. If they want me to help as an oral examiner, I'm all for it.
I just can't see a profession like nursing allowing things like this to go on. If Sleep Technology was run by nurses we wouldn't even be having this discussion.
I'm firmly convinced that a big reason why there's been no big push to requiring everyone to have an AAS and RPSGT is due to the fact that it's been so easy for so long to take someone off the street and ojt them. To erect barriers of entry would mean labs would have to shut down or scale back operations, and MD's would lose an important revenue stream.
But unless we regulate ourselves, regulation will be forced upon us.
