We have both. JCAHO is nothing if you are hospital based. AASM was strict. All techs should not have to be certified but there should be some requirments for key techs that supervise or teach the beginners. Accreditation is the best that we have for labs and more insurance companies are requiring it. There is a lot of junk goning on. It gives sleep medicine a bad reputation, but hopefully the quality places will win out. Lack of trained techs is the weak link and a good differential in pay for the fully qualified is a start. Less qualified should have to work under supervision of a fully qualified tech.
