Arousal Scoring Levels

Posted by bob on January 29, 2005 at 05:17:29:

I am sitting here on a snowy Saturday afternoon scoring and an idea came to me. I have noted that all arousals are not created the same - some are full-blown awakenings with several epochs of Wake following and then down the continuum to 1.5 secs of Alpha with a blip in the EMG. Why not create two or three Levels of Arousal to reflect this? We are in the process of codifying/gathering/updating scoring rules for the new manual by the AASM et al. hopefully 2006. Obviously this is a very subjective system but then again - most things in sleep scoring are - and are becoming increasingly so over time. What do you all think?
