It is indeed very difficult to get into management positions compared to night shift or day-scoring positions.

Years of teching and credentials like RPSGT and BA are vital, but not enough.

I agree that willingness to relocate helps a great deal.

Take a good, dispassionate look at your resume. Do you have things on there that demonstrate management or leadership skills? Things like organizing a healthfair booth, running a patient support group, assisting your current manager with the QA program, organizing staff picnic or outings. How about extra-curricular things like little league coach or management of a charity or fundraiser event (there are always groups doing carwash fundraisers around here).

When you find a good potential position, walk that fine line between enthusiastic and bothersome. A call or two to confirm your resume was received and ask if they have any questions is good. Repetative calls is bad. A thankyou note after an interview is VERY good.
