Dear Clara,
What did your doc say about what happened? Having difficulty sleeping in the sleep lab the first night is not all that uncommon. Now that you are familiar with the surroundings and know what to expect, a second night is in order. Barring that, there are two possibilities. An actigraph is a small device you can wear 24-7 (24 hrs, 7 days/wk) which can give information to the doc on how sleepy you are. Also a home-study monitor for sleep apnea screening can be used. Neither test is definitive for a disorder, only suggestive. For a clear diagnosis you will eventually have to spend the night in the sleep lab again. In reference tou your last question. would you want to be treated for diabetes if you didn't have it?
