Posted by TJ on September 18, 1997 at 21:42:01:I believe that I have occasionally suffered from sleep paralysis, but I'm not sure. I've read in Prevention magazine that sleep paralysis is being awake but not able to move. Here's my situation: I sometimes have dreams about being awake, but I'm really not awake. In those dreams, I see myself moving and doing things; however, I have other awake dreams that I'm not sure if they are dreams. I'm awake consciously (at least I believe so) to know that I'm lying in bed and I can hear the television in the background, but I can't open my eyes, speak, or move one muscle in my body (no matter how much I try). It is very scary, but some how I fall back to sleep. I've only once been able to wake myself up out of this state, then I couldn't (actually too scared that it would happen again) to go to sleep. Do you think I have sleep paralysis? If so, what causes it to happen? What could I do to prevent it? And should I see a doctor about my problem?
