It is not uncommon to have sleep apnea and another sleeping disorder. You may have some issues with insomnia, many forms, or restless legs or another disorder that could be waking you up. Best to be checked out for other possible causes before having surgery. If the problem does not come up during the initial consultation then another study while on cpap could be in order. Another question is are these awakenings keeping you from being alert the next day. What symptoms do you have. Most of us wake up several times a night but are able to go back to sleep. The question is why are you not able to go back to sleep. Could it be the CPAP itself keeping you awake. So you see there are many possibilities here and that is why you need ar checkup by a sleep specialist. I would call Stanford and explain what is going on and let them try to help you before surgery.
