insomnia and dizziness

Posted by Caroline on September 21, 1997 at 17:40:21:

Hello there!
I'm not sure if you can answer my questions, but I have nothing to lose by asking!
My best friend , 39 years old, is suffering from a great many persistent
symptoms for the past nine months. They are:
insomnia ( without sleeping pills she does not sleep at all), dizziness,
constant ear pressure and a cold feeling in the right ear, an unease
feeling in the right side of her head (not a headache but more like a
cold feeling), trembling and a general weakness of the whole body, and
her latest symptom for the past weeks is blurry vision or momentary no
vision in her right eye. Sometimes she gets aches in her right arm and
right leg. or other times a feeling of numbness. All these symptoms have
been and still are persistent and most of the symptoms are constant
throughout the day.
Over the past 6 months she had several tests done (blood tests, EEG,
EMG/NCV, and 3 weeks ago a MRI). Neurologists are at lose and can't find
anything physically wrong with her.
Her 30 year old sister has been diagnosed with MS 3 months ago. However
tests showed no sign of MS in my friend.
A year ago she broke her left humerus bone and has now a metal plate
and six screws in her arm. There was some minor nerve damage to her
thumb, index finger and the middle finger. She has regained most of her
normal mobility but still has no sensory feeling in those 3 fingers.
Since I'm the one with the Internet access, could you please answer me a
few questions?
Is it possible all these symptoms are due to a reaction to the metal
plate? Or due to the nerve damage to the meridian nerve?
Does a MRI show only what one is looking for (eg. MS lesions) or does it
show abnormalities regardless why a MRI was requested?
Why are so many symptoms of her on the right side of her body? Does that
mean anything?
Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Sincerely, Caroline
