I have bad apnea. About 6 years ago I had the surgery. Bad trip. Lots of pain and when finally recovered found out that when drinking out of a water fountain -- most came back out my nose! Also very easy to get something down your windpipe when your eating. If I had it to do over again -- I'd op for keeping my uvula!
And I still have sleep apnea.
Got a BiPap machine despite the $6,000 expense. Had a hella time learning to use it because of clostrafobia (sp). Took me over 2 years.
It has really helped. Have a "nose" mask that works -- but you look like the creature from the black lagoon when you wear it. Have to learn to keep your mouth closed and thats not easy to do. Also you get extreme "dry mouth" and throat. Keeping a glass of water on the night stand helps.
The BiPap and CPap machine do help -- but they both have drawbacks you have to learn to live with. Considering the possible drastic alternatives -- its the only way to go. The operation is the pitts!
