Dear Gwen,

My advice (for whatever its worth) is get a second opinion on the surgery. I had it about 6 years ago with only about 10% improvement. About all it did was help a Florida Dr. make another payment on his boat. Lots of pain for several weeks (you can plan to be off 2 to 3 weeks) after surgery and a long adjustment period getting used to eating without some going down your windpipe and drinking out of a fountain without loosing half the water out your nose.

I have been using a bipap machine since. It took me almost 2 years before I could keep the mask on all night (bad clostrofobia - sp) and i still suffer from dry mouth.

Investigate the bipap machine. Its different from the cpap in that it requires less pressure since the pressure will automaticly increase when you stop breathing. It cost more -- but in my opnion, its worth it.

You will eventually get used to your machine. Is it helping you even a little bit? Just take it hour by hour.
Good luck -- and don't give up!

Kim
