Posted by Jan on September 25, 1997 at 09:36:57:I have been unsucessfully treated for depression for several years and was diagnosed with sleep apena this spring. My psychiatrist believes that the apnea is the underlying cause which explains why none of the antidepressants (including proltryteline) , ect, intracranial magnetic stimulation, etc... never helped.
However, the doctor at the sleep lab thinks I may be "among the minority of patients who cannot tolerate a cpap". I am still trying-they are gradually increasing the pressure but at the lab when the pressure was high enough to treat the episodes the pressure itself appeared to wake me. (In the dr's words it "produced hundreds of arrousals").I am somewhat sceptical about the lab because the whole process has just taken so long-I initially contacted them for diagnosis and treatment in February!
Any suggestions ? Does anyone know of any studies being run?
