This is not an uncommon behavior in small children. It is called a confusional arousal. It is akin (but not the same as) sleepwalking and sleep terrors. The best thing to do is not be alarmed yourself. If your daughter "comes to" it is terrifying for her to see your fearful face. If you are still concerned you may have her evaluated at a pediatric sleep clinic in your area.
