Sleep as we age becomes less efficient just like everything else. There are a lot of thing we've learned in the past 8 years since you've been to the sleep clinic. It appears that as we get older we have more arousals, less deep sleep, and more time in bed trying to get some sleep. There is some suggestion that there is a return to childlike sleep where we need more naps and less sleep at one time. The thing to do is track your sleep with a sleep log (24hrs) for two weeks and see how much you're getting per day. Then determine the optimal times to sleep or nap and stick to those times every single day. An enlightened (and/or board certified in Sleep) sleep doctor who is willing to spend time with you ought to be quite helpful.
Good Luck
