I snore through my nose and my wife has complained for years that I probably have apnea.
Because of sinus infections I get, I went to a EN&T doctor who has been working with apnea for around 5 years.
He ordered a home study program that had:
- about 4-6 probes on my head for brain activities
- a wire between my nose & mouth for airflow,
- pads on my chest for ekg
- another sensor on my abdomin for lung activity
- sensors on my legs for movement,
- and a sensor on my finger for oxygen
He took a while to get back to me because he kept reconfirming with the lab. He was surprised that I have central apnea; and said he wished it could be obstruction so that he could operate (he was joking) to fix it. He recommended having another study to find out if a mask could be adjusted to help.
But based on how conclusive the results appear, I am pretty sure that is is central apnea.
