I am going to have a corrective jaw surgery to
treat my severe sleep apnea. Unfortunately, the
process is long. The procedure involves Orthodon
tic braces on my teeth for about a year(In the
mean time I am using a CPAP), and then I'll have
the surgery. This will bring my lower jaw
forward, which seems to be causing my OSA. But,
I also have very large tonsills and adnoids, so
they may end up taking those out too. From the
very few people who have had the jaw surgery
performed to treat sleep apnea, all have had
positive results.(no more CPAP or apnea). I didn't
just jump to the decision of surgery lightly. But,
I'm only 23 years old and the thought of spending
my entire life with a CPAP without even trying
other options, was my motivation. Please make
an informed decision though. I've heard many, many
horror stories about the UPPP surgery. The surgeon
should know what is causing the obstuction, not just
go in and scape out your throat. Good Luck
