I spent a fair amount of time looking into different CPAP machines before I bought mine. In my humble opinion there isn't a lot of difference between the current models of the different brands. Most offer the essential features and most suppliers offer versions suited to individual needs.

But I did not spend a lot of time checking out masks, nasal pillows, etc, and ended up buying a mask that did not fit well, leaked air,and was generally uncomfortable.

Since then I have switched to nasal pillows, and after a false start with the wrong size, I have been very happy with them. I do not find them constricting or intrusive and they are easy to adjust to avoid leaks.

On the other hand, I still consider myself a novice with respect to the various options for head gear. I'd love to hear from others on the pros and cons of various types and brands.

My best advice so far is:

1. rent the CPAP machine before you buy it and be prepared to switch brands if you don't like the machine.
2. don't let your supplier talk you into his/her favorite mask. Check out the different types available. Try them onlying down. Make sure you've got the wrong size.

As far as I know, any manufacturer's mask/headgear will work with any other manufacturer's CPAP machine so you can mix and match,
