night terrors??

I would really like to find out where I should go with my problem. Soon after I go to sleep, about 20-30 minutes, I will open my eyes (I'm not sure if I have gone to sleep or not) and I see usually people. Men, women, or children. Their faces are usually right next to mine, so I usually start screaming. I have jumped out of bed on occassion, and once even ran right out of the house. I vividly recall these images, so I know what I am screaming about. This has been going on for about 5 years, and I am 35 years old. I have never had any sleep problems before. When this first started, I would see spiders, but now it has gone to people. Seeing the children don't scare me as much as seeing the men. I can even recall his features, and it isn't any one I know. I am just at a loss as to where to turn. Can anyone help me?
