Dear Shelle,
It is rare for people not to get ANY sleep in the sleep lab. Usually, a few hours of sleep in the lab will determine if you have sleep apnea. Sometimes, a person will not have sleep apnea unless they are in a certain position and/or in a certain stage of sleep. This will usually happen sometime during the night. Few other disorders mimic sleep apnea that do not also have daytime symptoms. A good sleep specialist will be able to sort this all out.
Good Luck
