I've been on CPAP for 4 months. I usually use a gel mask, but because I'm often awakened by leaks (especially over my eyes) I would prefer to use nasal pillows. My problem: after 1 to 3 nights of using nasal pillows I invariably develop a pimple at the base of a nose hair (sooooo gross). This is despite my efforts to thoroughly and gently cleanse my face and the skin just inside the nostrils with a mild cleanser (Neutrogena Facial). The last time I used the pillows I developed a pimple within 12 hours; it swelled badly, receded, then seemed to return as a cyst in the tissue between my nostrils--never erupting to the surface. This persisted for several weeks; at first it was very tender then simply red, flakey, and embarassing. Needless to say, I'm spooked about using them again. I wonder if anyone else has had such an extreme reaction.
